Bunny is passionate about quilting. Since 1980, she’s made quilts for friends, fundraisers, and quite a few for babies. She loves picking out fun fabrics with bold colors and patterns. One of her recent fabric finds included cats (she loves cats!) and she transformed the patchwork squares of fabric into one of her warmest and most cherished quilts. (Pictured)

Health issues forced Bunny to give up quilting for a while. She wasn’t able to go to her weekly quilting club or even quilt at home. She missed her friends and getting out and was feeling sad and depressed. Bunny lives independently and was used to, and enjoyed, doing things for herself, but because of health challenges, she didn’t have the energy or time to do the things she loved.
Bunny’s family reached out to Rhythms Home Care (RHC) to see how we could help. The goal of RHC is to support each person’s potential, possibilities and success in the home they love. We understand how important it is for clients and their loved ones to have a partner to support and encourage them during inevitable life changes and transitions.
A Personal Care Associate from Rhythms Home Care visits Bunny for a few hours a couple of times a week and assists with laundry, cleaning, planning meals, and running errands. Freeing up the time and energy from these tasks has enabled Bunny to get back to doing the things she loves – organizing squares of fabric and creating beautiful quilts!
Getting back to quilting has had other benefits as well. According to Bunny, she is more active than she has been in months and after just two weeks her family reported they are thrilled with the changes they’ve seen in Bunny’s mental and physical well-being.
It can be challenging to ask for help when you are used to doing things on your own, and family members often feel guilty when they can’t help. Having a mission-driven care partner who understands your rhythms of life and can provide just the amount of support you need can make a difference to an entire family and a community. Thanks to the extra support Bunny is receiving from Rhythms Home Care, she is back to cutting and organizing fabrics and planning her next quilt to be auctioned off to raise money for local schools. When meeting with Bunny and her family to set up care, Bunny resisted saying, “I can get by.” But her son Mark told her he wanted
her to be happy again. “You deserve it,” he said, “and we would love to see you quilting again.”
We are happy to see Bunny quilting again too!
